Annie Verdell Bland
Annie Verdell was born on January 13, 1917 in Monticello, Florida to the late Susie Porter Davis and Glasco Leroy Davis. She moved to Bradenton, Florida at a very young age where she attended St. Steven Baptist Church and the Manatee County School System.
Annie and her late husband Mark moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut after Mark’s stint as a sergeant in the Army during World War II. They joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Norwalk, Connecticut and attended many churches in the area. They were very active in the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.
The Bland’s moved to Beverly Hills, FL in September 1990. They joined St. James A.M.E. Church in Inverness, Florida, where they remained until their homegoing.
On Friday, December 7, 2007, Sister Annie V. Bland passed away; proceeded in death by her two brothers, Lewis “Friend-buddy” and Leroy G. Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter, Doris Walker-Robertson; six grandchildren, Joey (Renay) Walker, Christopher Walker, Daphne (Victor) Davis, Kevin Walker, Deirdre (Houston) Daniels, and Patricia Walker; fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ophelia (Leroy) Davis of Madison Heights, Virginia and Thelma (Lewis) Davis of Bradenton, Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of extended family members, friends and neighbors.
