PASTOR
BERTHA HOUSTON

On this day we celebrate the home going of Pastor Bertha Houston, who was called to her glorious heavenly home on Thursday, May 14,2009 at 3:00 pm.

Bertha Houston was born to Mildred and Willie Hollis on April 22,1943. She was a devoted spouse to Pastor Demus Houston for 35 years until his demise in 1999. There after she picked up the mantel and began pastoring at Mt. Carmel Free Will Methodist Church in Floral City, FL until the Lord called her home.

She worked with the Citrus County School Board for 30 years with most of her time spent at Hernando Elementary School as a Food Service Manager.

Bertha was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mildred and Willie Hollis. Also six of her siblings, Annie Mae Brown, Rosemary Houston, Mary Scriven, Ulysess Hollis, Thomas Jefferson Hollis, and David Hollis. She leaves to cherish her memories, seven children, Leronda Hollis of Orlando, FL, Jennifer Clark (Greg) of Inverness, FL, Matthew Houston (Wanda) of Spring Hill, FL, Willie Houston (Tanya) of New Jersey, Melvenia Houston-Clinard (Shawn) of Inverness, FL, Lucille Farrington (Isaiah) of Hernando, FL and Deleen Houston of Inverness, FL; two step-sons, Dennis Houston (Stacy) of Maryland and David Houston (Pam) of Crystal River, FL; five living siblings, Willie Hollis, Martha Fisher, Zebedee Hollis, Hurbert Hollis (Stacey), and Morris Hollis; two sisters-in-law Lucile Smith ( Russell) and Geneva Bell ; three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Houston, James Brown and Lewis Scriven; fourteen grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; special friend, Alida Langley; godchildren, Angela Leggett, Andrew Franklin, Carrie Hook, and Ezakeous Merrick. Bertha epitomized the scripture that says, " Love the Lord God with all your heart, mind and soul." Her greatest desire was to see souls won to Christ and that a mighty remnant of God fearing men would rise up to lead their homes and the church to the next dimension. One of her last statements before her demise was "When will the praise service begin?"
