Obituary for Bessie Lee Harris
Biographical Sketch Of...
Bessie Lee Harris
Bessie was born May 2, 1937 in Uniontown, Alabama to the late Adam and Quella Holmes.
She was employed at Lykes Memorial Hospital for 22 years until she retired in October of 2003. After being home for a few years babysitting her great grandchildren, she returned to work at Bayfront Health as a sitter until her health would no longer allow her to work. She built lifelong friendships with many of her co-workers. She was well loved and known for making the best sweet potato pies.
Bessie wore many hats. She was a mother, sister, world’s greatest grandmother, the best “granny” ever, an Aunt, Cousin, very good friend and an extremely hard worker.
Bessie touched the lives of many people that she came in contact with. She quietly departed this life on February 16, surrounded by her family and cared for by her co-workers. Her kind heart, warm smile, good work ethic and awesome sweet potato pies will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Nathan and Clarence and her sister Quella.
She leaves to cherish great memories, her step mother, Essie Mae Holmes of Spring Hill, FL; her children, Johnny (Dianne) of Westland, MI, Essie of Bessmer, AL, Dorothy (Samuel) of Winter Garden, FL; Two sisters, Sandra (James) of Lakeland, FL, Suzette (Ronnie) of Brooksville, FL, Three brothers, Alfred(Madalyn) and Frederick of Brooksville, FL, and David of Spring Hill, FL; 10 grandchildren, 3 of whom she raised, Tomika, Satori and Jamela; 28 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family members and many sorrowing friends.
