Elmira Washington Blount was born February 28, 1921 in Okeechobee, Florida to the late Jessie and Ollie Wade Washington. At a very young age, her parents relocated to Brooksville, Florida where she later met and married the late Albert Blount, Sr.
She attended Hernando County Public Schools and was employed by Weeki Wachee Springs before retiring.
Her belief in God was reflected in her care and assistance to others. As a woman who prayed often, it was her belief that it was okay to take all of your troubles to the Lord in prayer and her relationship with God was very strong. She loved her family with all of her heart. No matter what they needed, she was always there. Her love for her family was without question. She was indeed the matriarch of The Blount Family. Elmira was converted, baptized and served faithfully for many years at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Brooksville, FL. Up until her illness, she was an active member of the Leonard Street Church of God, Brooksville, FL where she served as Church Mother. Mother Blount’s demeanor was always quiet and she always carried a smile. She often referred to herself as “the old lady who lived in a shoe and had so many children she didn’t know what to do.” She will be greatly missed.
On March 6, 2014, the Lord called His angel home. She is preceded in death by three children: Albert Blount, Jr., Annie Mae Blount, and Carl Edward Blount; four sisters: Mary Johnson, Henrietta Langley, Lenora Washington, and Estelle Wilkerson; three brothers: Mack Washington, Sr., Jessie Washington, Jr., and Walter Washington.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: two sons: Booker Blount (Vickie) of Brooksville, FL.; and Marvin Blount of Tampa, FL; eight daughters: Mary Ann Calhoun of Brooksville, FL; Louise McCalop of Tampa, FL; Jeanette Blount of St. Petersburg, FL; Julie Brown of Riverview, FL; Helen Blount of St. Petersburg, FL; Rose Cohen (James) of Ocala, FL; Dorothy Blount-Burnett (Peter) of Manassas, VA; and Pamela Gamble (Emanuel) of Valrico, FL; 33 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren; and 2 great-great-great grandchildren; one brother: Thomas H. Washington (Bertha) of Austin, TX; three sisters: Margaret Brooks of Brooksville, FL; Maggie Robinson of Brooksville, FL; and Maxine Powell of St. Petersburg, FL; three sisters-in-law: Margaree Hart, Gussie Washington and Willie Mae Washington, all of Brooksville, FL; god-daughter: Edna Brown of Elmwood Park, NJ; a very special niece: Freddie Lee Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; and one special friend and neighbor, Rosa Ingram of Brooksville, FL.
