The Life of Floyd Thomas Moore
Floyd “Shotgun” Moore was born to the parents of Connie and Willie Mae Moore on September 27, 1943 in Crestview, Florida, Okaloosa County, near the Florida Panhandle. The family relocated to Brooksville, Florida in 1949. The family resided at the Lewis Turpentine Still and Plantation, eventually purchasing a home on the site where Mykonos Restaurant is located. Floyd was a member of Moton High School, Class of 1962.
After High School, Floyd stayed local working in the agrarian economy. He was one of the best harvesters of produce in the country, traveling the season to Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York. He consistently picked more than 100 boxes of citrus per day. For his accomplishment, he was crowned the “Fruit Hog.” After attending Withlacoochee Vocational Tech Center for Law Enforcement, Floyd accepted an opportunity to join the Hernando County Sheriff’s Department in the late 1970s. Later, Floyd was employed by the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company working simultaneously with Mid-Florida Community Services Weatherization Program, where he mastered his building construction skills. Floyd assisted many families with handyman, roofing projects and was a successful businessman until his health started declining.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Connie and Willie Mae Moore; and siblings: Connie Moore, Jr., Mildred Drake and Eloise Moore Tievillion.
Floyd leaves to cherish his memories, loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Kariletha Moore; Son, Floyd Moore, II; siblings: Maulty Moore (Pamela), Quebec Moore, Smitha Moore; and a host of sorrowing grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
