Hattie Mae Moore Byrd

"CANDI"

Brilliant characters flash across the pages of history and at times they arrive in the most unexpected places.

Sis. Hattie “Candi” Moore Byrd was born on April 14, 1935 in Uniontown, Alabama to the late Alberta Moore and Major Drake. Hattie “Candi” Moore Byrd graduated from Moton High School, Class of 1953, Candi joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful until the “Master” called her home.

“WHO CAN FIND A VIRTUOUS WOMAN”

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need to spoil. Hattie was united in holy matrimony to Booker T. Byrd for 50 years. She would go on and do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool and flax and worketh brilliantly with her hands.

Hattie Mae “Candi” Moore Byrd was employed as “Head Cook” at Brooksville Regional Hospital until she retired after 30 years of service. “Emril” could have taken a back seat to her cuisine. She was like a merchant ship she brought forth her food from afar. She riseth also while it was yet night and giveth meat to her household and a portion to the maidens. She served and shared it with her, Mother Alberta, Sister’s, and her Partners, Willy, Lillie and Emma,  Brother’s Honey, James, Arthur and Cuz. Nephew’s T. Bug and Billy, Nieces, Fannie, Peggy, Mary and many more.

She opened her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue was the law of kindness. Her children arise up and called her blessed: One child preceded her in death, Jason Byrd. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Booker T. Byrd; five children, Valerie Swinson of Maitland, FL, Markel Moore of Brooksville, FL, Kenneth (Sheryl) Moore of Sanford, FL, Sharon Washington of Sanford, FL and Rodney Byrd of Brooksville, FL; three brothers, James Hall, Major (Sarah) Drake and Robert Drake all of Brooksville, FL; five sisters, Willy (Eddie) Mobley, Ethel (George) Outlaw, Mamie Davis, Brooksville, FL, Emma Huggins of Sanford, FL, Minnie Byrd of Birmingham, AL; three sisters-in-law, Mildred Drake, Pearlene Drake both of Brooksville, FL, Corinne (Robert) Artis of Clarence Center, NY ; one brother-in-law,  Donald Byrd of New York; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

Many daughters have done virtuously but thou Hattie Mae “Candi” Moore Byrd excellest them all for the fruit of thy hands and her own works Praise her in the gates. A Wife, Sister, Servant, Mother and Friend. Hattie Mae “Candi” Moore Byrd.
