Obituary for JOE REE PARKER
On Wednesday morning Septemeber 20, 2006 My Daddy, My Husband, My Uncle, My Grandpa, My great Grampa, My cousin, My Father-In-Law, my Friend, My Neighbor, My Barber, My Landlord left this world for another one.Joe Re Parker was born in Belle Galde, Florida on October 2, 1931 to Bessie Campbell and Fred Parker, both of whom preceeded him in death by brothers Eddie Parker (Rose) and Ernest James Parker (Eva) and Sister Alice Fletcher (Billy). Joe graduated from Carver High School in Mount Olice, North Carolina in 1951. He had an opportunity to play pro baseball but due to racism he chose not to. He served in the aRmy in 1952 and was in the Korean War and in 1955 he receved an honorable discharge. He attended Flrida A&M in 1956 for barbering. After graduating, he started barbering at various barbershops and later started his own business Joe's Barbershop in Fort Lauderdale which was well known. He was an entrepreneur ahead of his time for a minority owning investment properties and businesses like Parker's Tasty Barbecue working with nephew Dennis Parker. Later in life, Joe was a member of the Dorsey River Bend Home Owners Association, a community leader and a member of the American legion Post #220 for 15 years. His loves where his family, photography, geography, gardening, learning new things and telling stories and jokes for a laugh. He was also a workaholic. He'd help anybody including people he didn't know. Left to forever cherish memories of him are his wife Joan Foulkes Parker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Sons and (Daughters-In-Law) Cornel (Debbie) of Des Moines Iowa, David (Christianna) of Tampa, FL, Kevin (Joan) of Brooksville, FL, Joe (Greta) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Eddie (Phyllis) of Lady Lakes, FL, Sean (Valarie) of Delray Beach, FL.
Left to mourn are devoted sisters Vernell Gobern (Fred) and Willie Lea Horton (Milton); brother: James Proctor; grandchildren: Terrance, Georganna, Shanika, Jermaine, Tavaras, Shania, Christorpher Love, Marcus, Fallon and Kristen; dear cousin: Elijah Horne; special friends: Wilbur Ponder, Elijah (Dude) Thurston, Major and Claudette Melvin, Ernest Groover, Wilbur Gordon, ann Melson and Chris Coney and a host of other beloved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to name. Services: Tuesday, September 26, 2006                11:00 a.m.                B.T.
