Obituary for JUANA DeCASSERES
JUANA DeCASSERES
Our Loss, but Heaven’s Gain
Juana DeCasseres was born Juana Louise Sterling on September 22, 1925.
She was born in Cuba, and at the age of 7 her family moved to Jamaica where she lived until she visited the States in 1965. Juana had as 2 week visa to visit the World’s Fair in New York. Because she was Cuban, she travelled with a Cuban passport. She had no trouble getting into New York, however, when it was time to return to Jamaica, to her surprise, the airport immigration would not allow her to leave. They explained to her that they could not allow her to leave, because they could not allow her to go to Cuba. So, she was “granted asylum” to become a permanent resident of the US J. She lived with friends until she could find a job and saved enough to bring her family to the States.
Juana is survived by her baby sister, Clementine Ruddock, who resides in Calgary, Canada; her Daughters, Arlene Taylor and Nesline Swaby; her son Patrick DeCasseres. She was blessed with many grand children: Develle DeCasseres, Sharlene Jones, Tanena Taylor, Donald Swaby Jr., Michael Swaby, Octavia DeCasseres, Joan DeCasseres and Jenay DeCasseres. She was also blessed with 4 Great grand children.
She was called home to paradise at 9:25pm on March 14, 2011.
