Obituary for Jerome Griffin, Sr
Jerome Griffin, Sr. peacefully left his 64-year journey here on earth Thursday,
January 14, 2021 at home in Kissimmee, Florida. A native of Brooksville, Jerome,
affectionally known as “Geeco”, was born on February 14, 1956 to the
late John C. Griffin and the late Mildred Sims.
Jerome attended Hernando High School where he excelled in athletics. He was
the first African American on the wrestling team at Hernando High,
winning numerous titles. After high school, Jerome entered the United States
Army, serving most of his active-duty time in Fort Bragg, NC. He also was
deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait. As a dual status
Department of the Army Reserve Technician; he retired after many years of
service. Jerome lived a life of service: He enjoyed serving The Lord; spending
time with his family-especially his grandchildren, and his friends.
Jerome will forever be loved by those of us that he left behind. We will miss the
joy and the love that he brought into our lives. He is survived by
his wife of over 27 years, Sheila (Smith) Griffin of Kissimmee, Florida; his six
children: Andrea Joy Griffin of Springhill, Florida; Jerome Jr. of Brooksville,
Florida; Christopher Griffin of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Keltwon Newberry of
Springhill, Florida; Michael Griffin of Killeen, Texas; Lemar Griffin (Dora) of
Denver, Colorado; and one stepson, Floyd “Jasper” Haynes, II of San Antonio,
Texas; sisters: Mary Isabel Harris (Henry); Johnnie Ruth Griffin, both of
Brooksville, Florida, Dr. Sharon Vickers-Cook (David) of Springhill, Florida;
brothers: John C. Griffin, Jr. of Clewiston, Florida, Reverend Nathaniel Sims of
Dade City, Florida; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and
friends.
