Obituary for Joe Nathan Walker
Deacon Joe Nathan Walker
Joe Nathan Walker was born on May 9, 1928 in Mariana, Arkansas to the late Nathaniel Walker (late Ellen Walker, stepmother) and the late Lula Kelly. He departed this life on October 16, 2019.
Deacon Walker moved to Brooksville, FL in 1954 after being told that money was growing on trees. He pursed a job in picking fruit and quickly discovered that was not what he wanted to do for a living. Although he did not have a high level of formal education, he had a doctorate degree in “Common Sense”. He was gifted with abilities that enabled him to effectively work jobs that required special skills and training, and to establish businesses. In 1970, he was hired by the Hernando County School Maintenance Department and later elevated to Crew Chief. He worked in the Maintenance Department for over 22 years. He also owned several businesses; such as Ballard Hall, Walker’s Lawn Service, and Joe’s Barbeque, to name a few of his businesses.
After making Brooksville home, deacon Walker later became a committed member of Mount Pilgrim U.A. Freewill Baptist Church. As a member, he served faithfully as an usher and chairman of the Trustee Board. The Mount Pilgrim U. A. Freewill Baptist Church family loved him dearly, especially the Clark & Hicks Families.
Deacon Joe loved the game of baseball and was a great baseball player in his younger days. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time fellowshipping with his friends at Wal-Mart, McDonalds and Hardees. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 67 years, Mother Annie Mae Walker; his father and mother; one sister, Kay Francis Walker; and one great-grandson, Christopher Burse.
He leaves to cherish his memories the following children: Tom Burse III (Reba Brewington – Fiancé) of Camp Springs, MD; Cora Walker and Johnny Walker both of Dallas, TX; one sister, Doris Payton of Chicago, IL, one brother, Ed Walker of Chicago, IL; one sister-in-law, Lallie Knox of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Kelly Hamilton, Jr. of Castro Valley, CA; granddaughter, Kimberly Jones (Damion) of Dallas, TX; grandsons, David Burse (Tiwanda) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Terry Walker (Michelle) of Dallas, TX and Clifton Burse of Camp Spring, MD; and great-granddaughter, Sydni Burse; and a host of other beloved family and friends.
He also leaves one very special and precious god-daughter: Sister Wanda Outlaw (Johnny); two very special godsons: Reverend David Swackard (Arleatha) and Pastor Jimmie L. Leonard, Sr. (Linda); former daughter-in-law, Ruth Burse; and close family friend Jennie Smith.
