Leonora "Lilly" Fahie (Nee FREET)
Leonora Frett Fahie, affectionately known as “Lilly” or “Lillian” was the eight (8th) of fourteen (14) children born to Ebenezer and Rosita Anesta Fahie Frett on June 18th, 1923 in Round Hill, Tortola British Virgin Islands. She was preceded in death by (9) of her siblings. In her early years Lilly spent a considerable amount of time on St. Thomas where she cared for her mother until her passing in 1940. Lilly would continue to reside between Tortola and St. Thomas, until she relocated permanently to St. Thomas during the late 1950’s. Lilly was the proud mother of (9) children who reside in Florida, New York and St. Croix. She worked tirelessly as a domestic engineer, cook and presser at Band Box and O’Henry laundries to feed her children. In spite of her large family, it was not uncommon to have her nieces and nephews live with her from time to time. She was a caring person and her doors were always open to all. She was forced to retire in 1970 due to poor health. In 1981, Lilly relocated to New York following the death of her husband, Wilfred Fahie. While there she took care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews. She moved to New Haven, Connecticut in 1991 with her youngest daughter, Celia and subsequently to Brooksville, Florida in 1999 where she passed away on March 13, 2009 at the age of 85. Lilly lived a full life and God was generous to her. She got her three scores and ten plus a bonus of fifteen years. We, her family thank God for allowing us to have had that time with her and we wish her a peaceful rest until we meet again.
