Life began for Lona Mae Chester Gibbs on July 6, 1936 in Inverness, FL. She was the fifth child born to Millege Buddy Chester and Hazel Weaver Chester. She attended public school in Citrus County Florida.
Â
At an early age she joined St. James A.M.E. Church of Inverness, FL. Later years she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized by Elder Shepherd Green. She was added to the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth under the pastorate of Elder Catherine Green. She served on the Usher Board. Elder Catherine Green transferred to another church and Elder Bonnie Chester Jackson became her pastor. After the demise of Elder Bonnie Jackson, she joined Faith, Hope and Charity Anointed Church of the Living God of Summerfield, FL under the pastorate of Elder Elease Chester Watkins, who later became her Bishop.

On October 4, 1959 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Russell Gibbs. She was an employee of private homes and business offices. She was loved by her family and friends.

On the morning of July 26, 2009 she went safely into the arms of Jesus, safe in His gentle breast. She was preceded in death by her father, Millege Chester, Sr.,; mother, Hazel Chester; one brother, S.W. Chester; two sisters, Bonnie D. Jackson and Elease Watkins and husband, Russell Gibbs.

She leaves to cherish her memories a caring and loving son Eddie L. Poe of Inverness; three brothers, Lonnie Chester, Sr. (Mary) of Inverness, FL, Millege Chester, Jr. (Mary) of Miami, FL and Willie Chester (Mary Lee) of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Lillie Mae Cole, Earnestine Demmings of Inverness, FL and Barbara Graham (Sam) of San Diego, CA; one uncle, Elijah Chester of Orlando, FL; one aunt, Alwillie Chester of Inverness, FL; three grandchildren, Briggitte Poe of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Poe, Sr. (Chloe) of Dunnellon, FL and Edie Poe Jones (Alexander) of Inverness, FL; seven great-grandchildren, Lakeith Davis, Deiondre Graves, Jacquan McDonald, Darius Poe, Brianna Poe, Brire Poe and Brian Poe, Jr; one godchild, Veronica Williams Milton and a host of nieces nephews and cousins.
