
Lorenzo Hamilton Sr., age 84 of Brooksville, Florida died Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He was a former Teacher,Coach, Assistant Principal and taught students incarcerated within Florida Department of Corrections.
Born in Cotton Plant,Florida he began his teaching career in his hometown of Frostproof,Florida teaching classes at the historic Ralph J. Bunche School where he also attended as a young boy. He would go on to attend the historic Roosevelt High School in Lake Wales, Fl where he was recruited to attend Bethune Cookman College. There he joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,Inc and graduated with a degree in Physical Education. He also earned a graduate degree from Florida A & M University. He began working for Polk County Schools before transferring to Hernando County School System. As a Hernando County Educator, he attained many great accomplishments, leading the to help integrate two Hernando County Schools following the Civil Rights Movement- Moton and Hernando. As a Coach he led the Brooksville Jets (girls softball team) to a State Championship as well as ran an Outstanding Little League
Program for the kids in the community. His community service was rewarded with a Honorable tribute: Lorenzo Hamilton Community Center. His impact and legacy as an Educator are shown in countless students he taught, mentored
an coached. His former students have gone on to become Doctors, Lawyers, Educators, Professional athletes and so much more. 2015 over 200 of former students returned to Brooksville to celebrate and pay tribute to him.
Lorenzo Hamilton was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Lois Black-Hamilton, a son, Darryl Hamilton, his parents, Lonnie and Earnest Hamilton Sr.,Step Mother, Willie A, Hamilton, his brothers, Earnest Hamilton Jr., Randolph Hamilton,
and Cornell Hamilton.
He leaves to cherish his memories; Two Sons, Lorenzo Hamilton Jr. Orlando, Florida, Keenan Hamilton, Spring Hill Florida. Two daughters, Cindy Bell (Anthony) Lake Wales, Fl, Anita Turner, Lakeland, Florida.
Two Surrogate Daughters; Sheila Richardson Lawson (Earl) and Stephanie D Richardson, Brooksville, Fl. Four Sisters; Lavina Hamilton, Ernestine Cobb (Arthur), Ocala, Fl., Lillian Sloan, Frostproof, Fl and Ernestine Hamilton, Bartow, Fl.
Brother, William Hamilton, Bartow,Fl. Four Sisters in Law, Deloris Jones (James), Daisy Black, Debra Black and Janice Burkes (Craig);Two Brother-in-Laws, Jersey Joe Black and James Black. 10 grandchildren, A host of nephews,nieces,
cousins and friends.
