Sister Maggie R. Smiley Jones
Mrs. Maggie R. Smiley Jones was born on December 24, 1920 to the late Mr. Joseph Smiley and Mrs. Isabella Smiley Roddy. As a young woman, she became the wife of the late Mr. Eddison Jones, however, the late Mr. James (Jim) Rogers was her long time companion. She departed this life on March 11, 2008 at The Groves Center in Lake Wales, Florida.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by four (4) sisters: Mrs. Bernice Braxton, Mrs. Bertha McNeal, Mrs. Josephine Sneed, and Mrs. Norma Lee Howard; three (3) brothers: Mr. Moses Smiley, Mr. Horace Smiley, and Mr. Henry Smiley.
She leaves to cherish her memory one (1) aunt, Mrs. Alice Frison of St. Petersburg, Florida and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends. Additionally, there was an inner circle of persons who consistently interacted with/for Mrs. Jones in her latter years: Pastor Johnny L. (Elizabeth G.) Smiley of Lake Wales, FL; Evangelist Earlean (Clifford) Scotland of Dade City, FL; Mr. Charlie Reed of Dade City, FL; Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Young of Dade City, FL; Mrs. Annie Will Burns of Dade City, FL; Mr. Willie (Gayle) Day of St. Petersburg, FL; Mrs. Luvenia Paige of Winter Park, FL; and Mr. Harold (Gussie) Smiley of Orlando, FL.
The Dade City Community was provided with many eggs and poultry prior to Ms. Maggie’s failing health. Her labor of love shall never be forgotten.
