MATTIE MAE DAVIS-RICHARDSON The book of life was opened for Mattie Mae Davis-Richardson on September 25, 1936, in Inverness, Florida. Mattie Mae was the second child born to the late James B. and Cathrine Weaver-Davis. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her lord and savior and joined Saint James A.M.E. Church. She attended public schools in Citrus County Florida. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1956. She was the drum majorette of the Booker T. Washington High School Band. After graduation she moved to Miami, Florida. In the year 1958, she was joined in holy matrimony to Frank C. Richardson. To this union one son was born, Durance A. Richardson. She began her college career at Miami-Dade Community College in 1967. She also attended classes at the University of Miami from 1968-1969. She ultimately attained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Florida Memorial College in 1976. She taught in the Dade County Public School System for thirty-two years and retired from Edison Park Elementary School. In 1961 she joined Saint Matthew Freewill Baptist Church. She was well loved by her family and friends. On the evening of Friday, April 28, 2006, Mattie heard the voice of Jesus say “come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” She leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband, Frank C. Richardson; son, Durance A. and wife Robin of Miami, Florida; two brothers, Robert L. Davis (Jencie) of Miami, Florida and James B. Davis II (Rhonda) of Inverness, Florida; one sister, Betty D. McKinnon (Orbary) of Crystal River, Florida; two brother-in-laws, Joseph Richardson (Linda) of Conway, South Carolina and Thomas Richardson (Lucile) of Miami, Florida; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two special dear friends, Elouise Chester and Valderia Wilks of Miami, Florida; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
