Myers G. Bennett



Myers Graham “Bruh” Bennett was called home to be with the Creator on November  4, 2012. He was born in Savannah, Georgia on August 17, 1943. Myers was Elijah and Edna Bennett’s second of eight children. The family relocated to Brooksville, Florida in the late 1940s. He attended Moton High School where he excelled in football. During his young adult years, he spent time living in Brooksville and Savannah, before settling down in Hernando County. Myers was a charter member of the Brooksville Branch NAACP. Bruh worked in the citrus industry as an oranges picker until it was wiped out by the freeze in the early 80s. For several years, he traveled to the northeast, also known as the season harvesting crops during the summer and early fall. For a short period, Myers worked at the mine and juice plant. Myers worked as a paver with Clyde Daniel Construction   until he was injured in a truck accident in the mid 90s. Bruh enjoyed sports and entertaining company in the yard. Myers was preceded in death by his mother (1987); father (1994); siblings: Ernest Paul Walker (1998); Ronald Rudolph (2002); Sharon Deloris (2004) and Elijah John (2007). He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Mattie, three children: Jacquelyn Lett, Christopher Lett and Clarence Lett; sister, Vera McKenzie; brother, Imani D. Asukile (Angela); devoted nephew, Freeman Bennett; maternal aunt, Mattie Lee Busby, Estill, South Carolina; two paternal aunts, Maggie Russell, Savannah, Georgia; and Gladys Simon, Thomasville, Georgia; two sisters in law: Joeann Bennett and Sarah Bennett; a special companion, Lois Lewis and a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.
