Her Life’s Journey
Mary Ellen Wright was born September 8, 1947 in Brooksville, Florida to the late Earl Wright, Sr., and Eloise Larry Wright. Mary was the fourth of ten siblings. She was educated in the Hernando County Public School System, having graduated in the class of 1967 from Moton High School. While at Moton, Mary showed great athletic prowess and was a member of the girl’s basketball team. During football season, Mary lent her voice, athletic ability and enthusiasm to the cheerleading squad. Mary attended then “Gibbs” Junior College in St. Petersburg, FL.
Mary possessed an adventurous spirit and an innate sense of responsibility in serving others. Following this track, she enlisted in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) Program and rendered service for several years to residents in New Haven, Connecticut. Upon completion of her stint with VISTA, Mary relocated temporarily to Brooksville. Wanting to do bigger things, Mary moved to Atlanta, Georgia and begins her initial employment with BellSouth, formerly known as Southern Bell. She was always competitive and maintained a stellar work performance history with the company. She continued this record with BellSouth upon her relocation to Orlando, FL. After several years in Orlando, Mary settled back to Hernando County, where she remained until her demise.
Mary’s walk with Christ started at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. K.E. Rogers. As a youth she was an avid Sunday school attendee and participated in many church programs. She trusted in the Lord and coveted the 23 Psalm as her favorite scripture.
On June 9, 2016, at 6:00 am, at Oakwood Assisted Living Facility, Springhill, Fl., Mary answered God’s call.
