Obituary for Michael Paul Severs

Michael (Mike) Paul Severs (1949-2023)

Michael Paul Severs passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 9, 2023, in Brooksville, Florida. He was 74 years old. Michael was born on June 18, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio. His family and friends are deeply saddened by his sudden passing.

He met the love of his life, Sheila (Hoskins) Severs, when they were teenagers, and he was performing in his band “Mike & The Mustangs”. The two were married on August 3, 1968, and recently celebrated their 55th Anniversary.

Michael and Sheila had three children that meant the world to them. Paul E. Severs, Carrie M. (Severs) Minton, and Aimee M. (Severs) Richardson. They were blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years that are lovingly known as their “Sugar Babies”.

They lived in Dayton, Ohio for many years and later moved their family to Jamestown, Ohio from 1989-2022. He and his wife then moved to a beautiful, wooded property affectionately known as “Sweet Spot” in Wellington, Kentucky and recently purchased a winter home in Brooksville, Florida to enjoy the warm sunshine.

Michael graduated from Wilbur Wright High School, class of 1967. He attended reunions and regularly gathered with high school friends at Joe’s Pizzeria.

He was happily enjoying retirement after working 46 years at Miami Valley Hospital. He began working as a Security Officer there before moving to the General Mechanics Department. He also worked part-time as a Deputy Sherriff with the Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office during the 1980s.

He was a dog lover and was never without a four-legged friend. His beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Reese, was at his side when he passed away. Good boy, Reese!

Michael was a member of The Bowersville Church of Christ where he served many years as a Deacon and then Elder. Later, He and Sheila were members of The First Church of Christ in Xenia, Ohio where he served as a Deacon and enjoyed singing in choir. He was passionate about honoring and helping military service members.

He enjoyed researching his family genealogy and over the years acquired massive amounts of information that will be passed on to his family. He liked tinkering and building with wood, photography, road-trips, fishing, camping, and just spending time with his family and friends. He was a curious person that never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sheila; three children: Paul Severs, Carrie Minton, and Aimee Richardson; six grandchildren: Christopher Severs, Kayla Severs, Isaac Richardson, Olivia (Richardson) Miller, Jocelyn Minton, and Luke Minton; five great-grandchildren: Cobain Severs, Stevie Severs, Gavin Troutt, Promise Watlington, and Leon Miller; daughter-in-law Tina (Lute) Severs; son-in-law Nathan Richardson; sister Bonnie (Severs) George; and countless extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents: Paul and Edna (Hughett) Severs, and stepmother: Grace (Carson) Severs; brother-in-law: Jerry George; father and mother-in-law: Ott and Georgia (Williston) Hoskins; brother and sister-in-law: Granville and Effie (Hoskins) Begley; son-in-law: Timothy Minton; granddaughter: Gillian Minton, and other close family and friends he had throughout his life.

A Memorial Celebration is being planned for a later date in June 2024 near Michael’s birthday. Family and friends are encouraged to reach out to his wife, Sheila, with phone calls, cards, and visits as they are able.
