Obituary for NATHANIEL CHESTER
NATHANIEL CHESTER, Sr., was born on March 2, 1920 to the late George and Eula L. Chester. He was one of 10 children. NATHANIEL was promoted to the Church Triumphant on the early morning of November 10, 2006.
NATHANIEL was born in Sparta, Georgia. He received his early childhood education at Hunts Chapel Elementary School in Sparta, Georgia. He later moved to Florida to continue his life. He joined in Holy Matrimony to Vera Stewart on October 3, 1942. To this union was born 6 children. He worked many years at the McDonald Rock Quarry in Brooksville, to support his family. In 1968, he moved to Sodus, New York in search for better wages. He worked different jobs until he was employed at the Xerox Corporation where he worked for the next 15 years. He retired in 1985 and decided to enjoy the best of two climates. Florida in the winter time and New York in the summer until he could no longer make the trip.
NATHANIEL dedicated his life to Christ at a very young age at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. He remained a faithful member of Mt. Zion, and the Church of God (where he served during his summer stays in NEW YORK). His service to both churches was never lacking in any way. He was also a member of Minister Layman Alliance and the Prince of Mercy Lodge No. 97 P.H.A. Masons.
He leaves to mourn, his wife VERA, and their children, one son, Edward Chester (Ethel) of Brooksville, FL,; four daughters, Lucy Bailey (Harold) of Sodus, NY, Mary Bain (Bateman) of Spring Hill, FL, Muriel Majors (Ramon) of Largo, FL and Melba Heath (Larry) of Williamson, NJ; two sisters, Annie Lawson (Samuel) of Brooksville, FL and Sally Reed of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Leonard “L.G.” George Chester (Gladys) of Bensalem, PA and Clifford (Jerlene) Chester of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Carrie; eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; god son, Ryan Denson; two adopted sons, Arnette Doctor and John Chappel, and a host of sorrowing friends and relatives.
