
Obituary for Naomi Barnette Walker
Naomi Barnette Brown, daughter of the late George Brown and Senie Allen Wilson was born on June 30, 1927 in Aberdeen, North Carolina. She was the fifth of 6 children. She received her early education in Moore County, North Carolina.
In 1945, she graduated from West Southern Pines High School in Southern Pines, NC. After graduating from high school, attaining a higher education was her immediate goal and attending college in Fayetteville, NC would help her achieve her goal of becoming a teacher.
In 1949, she graduated from Fayetteville State Teachers College (currently Fayetteville State University) in Fayetteville, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She began her teaching career for the Burke County School System in Waynesboro, GA.
Shortly thereafter, she met and married Clarence Willie Walker and continued her education at Florida Agriculture & Mechanical University, Tallahassee, FL, where she received her Masters of Science Degree in Education.
In 1959, she moved to Brooksville, Florida where she was employed as a first grade teacher for the Hernando County School Board. She taught first grade at Moton School and Brooksville Primary School. She continued her education and obtained her Education Specialist degree in 1975 from the College of Education at the University of South Florida.
She retired from the Hernando County School Board in 1984.
The Walker family became members of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in the early 1960s under Rev. K. E. Rogers.
Through the years she was a dedicated member. From Ebenezer’s old location in Ralph to Ebenezer’s current location, Naomi B. Walker was considered a pioneer among members.
Naomi B. Walker was very active in the community until her health declined. Her efforts were notable and highly appreciated. The following is a list of some of her community service and accolades over the years.
• Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church member where she served as a deaconess, prepared all communions, spearheaded the Ebenezer Tutoring Program for our youth, member of Choir #1, and participated in various committees throughout the years.
• Hernando County Teachers Association, Florida Education Association, and the National Education Association
• State of Florida, State of Georgia, State of North Carolina, and National Board Certified Teacher
• Hernando County Retired Educators Association
• Florida Retired Educators Association
• Black Educators’ Caucus

• Member of the Hernando Democratic Committee

• Volunteer for the Hernando County Sheriff’s 5th Police Substation in South Brooksville
• Kelly’s Temple #1004 member. She served as Financial Secretary for 25 + years, was a member of District 6 Emma V. Kelly Council #61 having attained the highest status possible for a daughter of Elks PGDR, and was very inspirational in the Education Dept. of the Elks I.B.P.O.E. of the World.
On July 17, 2017, Naomi B. Walker departed this life. She leaves to mourn two devoted and loving daughters Germaine Walker, Brooksville, FL; Carlette Brown, Miami, FL; and one precious son, Clarence Marcel Walker, Brooksville, FL; Four grandchildren Marlon Inmon (Crystal), Keyra Clark (Tyrone), Joli Deleveaux, and Carlie Brown; Six great-grandchildren Marlon Inmon Jr., Eddie Fagin III, Alexus Inmon, Samuel Taylor, Keylah Clark, and Corinne Deleveaux; Goddaughters Keisha Cason and Christina Trenton, and a host of devoted in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home starting at 9am, Friday, July 28, 2017.
