Obituary
Georgia Mae Douglas was born on March 3, 1938, to the late Ambrose H. and Minnie Douglas.She attended Moton Elementary and High School. She was always left in charge of the class, when the teacher had to step out, writing the names of the ones misbehaving. She played basketball, ran track, she also help with the May Day Ceremony, but softball was her favorite. She could hit that ball and got a home run most of the time. Everyone loved Georgia Mae. Standing up for others was important to her. She never like to see anyone picked on. She didn’t want others to be mistreated. Getting respect from them made them give respect to others. Georgia Mae was a church going young lady. In 1962, at New Jerusalem Church on Armstrong Street, under the leadership of Pastor Hansberry, Georgia Mae was calling on the name of Jesus. Earl called on him too. He had to be saved, if he would marry Georgia Mae. After two days, she received the Holy Ghost, it took Earl a week! That did not matter at all, they were both now soldiers in the Army of the Lord. It was time to be married – Now she was Mrs. Georgia Mae McCalop. To this union, Earl Jr. and four girls all named Princess, with different middle names were born. Taking care of her family, going to church, noon-day prayer service in the homes and streets, and so much more is what she loved to do. Later she joined the Church of the Living God on Twigg Street, where the late Elder Juanita Johnson was pastor. She continued to serve the Lord, leading devotional services, preaching, teaching, singing, helping with the youth and leading the choir. Continuing to give Jesus all the glory, she moved to the Church of the Living God Josephine Street where she was ordained and became one of the assistant pastors under the leadership of the late Elder Willie Brown, Sr. and later under the leadership of Chief Apostle Bishop Theodore N. Brown as well as Pastor Ralph Vanlow and Associate Pastor Jimmie Brooks. In spite of many disabilities, praising God was a must. She ministered the community in many ways: prayer line every morning at 6:00 am, prayer service at Heron Pointe on Thursday afternoons, ministering the sick and shut in, preparing others to be right with Jesus, feeding the homeless. She and her husband were always working in the community and attended many services and events, near and far. When they walked in everyone was sure to be looking to see how they were dressed. She wore many beautiful hats from her early years and throughout her lifetime. During their travel they met many people. Some already knew God, and many got to know God. Georgia Mae is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Earl McCalop; four daughters, Princess Shanta McCalop and friend Huey Wright, Princess Ton’Nice McCalop and friend Charles N. Washington, Princess Pandora McCalop, all of Brooksville and Princess Zachamae Mc Calop-Koletsky and husband Barry of Deland, FL; two sons, John Douglas of Philadelphia, PA and friend Yvonne and Clifford Phillips of Fort Myers, FL; one sister, Floral Lathen of Pompano Beach, FL; one brother, Odell Douglas of Utica, NY; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, Jancis Wallace (Ralph) of Warsaw, NC, Shirley McCalop of White Palms, NY, William McCalop of White Palms, NY, Mose McCalop of Yonkers, NY; grandchildren, Clifford, Christopher, Louis, Zachary, Coshawn, Tondanay, Georgette, Damouse, Johntel, Jalissa, Kenny and Kia; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; also great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;Godsons, cousins, friends, prayer warriors that will miss her dearly. Never will Rev. Georgia Mae Douglas McCalop be forgotten, but to remember all the great things she has said and done. We know one thing that is good, God came and took her home.
