Obituary
Sarah F. Davis

Sarah F. Davis born on August 4, 1929, was the eighth of ten children born to Rosa Senda and Captain Phelix Fletcher. She was a lifelong resident of Brooksville, FL.

Mrs. Davis, as she was called by most, attended Dr. R. Moton School and graduated from Florida A&M College with a degree in education. Subsequently, she became certified in Library Science. She returned to Brooksville and began a teaching career that lasted 30 years. Her first assignment was teaching third grade at Moton School. It was in the classroom that she began making a difference in the lives of her students. She demanded nothing but the best from her students. Most of the South Brooksville residents were taught by her and, today, speak highly of her positive influence on their lives.

After 30 years of teaching, Mrs. Davis retired as a librarian from Hernando County Schools. As a retiree, she began her second career working with the Hernando County Sheriff's Department where she was admired and respected. Her commitment to this job was as great as her commitment to teaching. She received praise and awards in appreciation for her service.

Family was foremost with Mrs. Davis. She loved her family with all her heart. No matter what they needed-a few dollars, moral support, or a meal-and no matter when they needed it, she was always there. Her love for her family was without question. She demonstrated this same love for her community. She was actively involved with the NAACP, the Moton Reunion Committee, the Black Educators Caucus, and the South Brooksville Revitalization Task Force. As a lifelong member of Bethlehem Progressive Baptist Church, she was a choir member and the immediate-past Financial Secretary.

Married 58 years to Mack Davis, Jr., who preceded her in death on May 13, 2009, she is survived by her son. Dr. Mack Davis, III and wife, Janette Spencer-Davis; her daughter, Angela Collins and husband, Calvin, and four grandchildren-Jason, Mallory, Jennifer, and Joseph. She also leaves behind one brother, Fred Fletcher, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special confidants, Willie Pearl and Ruby Hart.

The Homegoing Service for Sarah F. Davis will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 200 Mt. Fair Avenue, Brooksville, FLorida, 34601.

Family and friends will be received at a Memorial on Friday, May 21, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Progressive Baptist Church, 661 South Brooksville Avenue, Brooksville, FL.

Funeral arrangements are in the care of Cason Funeral & Cremation Services, 830 School Street, Brooksville, FL  34601.
