Demise: August 7, 2006
Sister Sarah L. Key was born and reared in Richlong, Florida. She attended the public schools in Sumter County where she successfully completed the 11th grade.
February 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Mr. James Key, Sr. They moved to Hernando, FL and later to Inverness to find employment.
She was raised in the church by a loving family and her dad was a preacher. Later she joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, under the pastorate of W. B. Burney. Sister Key truly devoted herself to the support of her church by cooking and selling food to raise funds for the building and other events. Many pastors later, she was pastored by Rev. Leroy E. Jones, whom she loved and adopted unofficially as her son.
Ms. Sarah L. Key was preceded in death by her late husband, James Key, Sr.; a loving mother and dad, Pearlie and Luther Futch; a devoted daughter, Debbie Key Johnson; sister, Daisy M. Ware; sister & brother-in-law, Elnora and Elijah Thompson; brothers, Abraham and David Futch.
She leaves to cherish her memories, five loving and devoted sons: James Key, Jr. and wife (Mary Frances), Bob R. Key of Inverness, FL, Larry Key and wife (Patricia) of St. Petersburg, FL, Gregory Key and wife (Dale) of West Palm Beach, FL and Herbert E. Key of West Palm Beach, FL; four loving daughters: Mary Walker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Gladys Washington of Inverness, FL, Mattie Key of West Palm Beach, FL and Essie Mae Davis and husband (Clarence, Sr.) of Inverness, FL; three brothers: Jasper Futch of Lacoochee, FL, Johnny Futch and wife (Maggie) of Dunnellon, FL and Thomas Kenny Futch and wife (Lucy) of Inverness, FL; brother-in-law, Huey L. Ware, Sr; 35 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Don’t grieve for me, for now, I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.
