Willie Mae Chester

Willie Mae Chester was born in the Florida Panhandle area to the late John and Dora Polite on November 25, 1914. She was the third child of six siblings: Bethsaida, Beatrice, Willie Mae, Joseph, Martha and Johnny all who preceded her in death. In later years she moved to Inverness, FL from Newberry, FL, joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and under the leadership of the late Rev. Jesse M. Hammons in the year of 1961, she joined St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served faithfully.

She was married to the late Frank Chester. Sister Chester’s home was always open to pastors, ministers, family and friends who enjoyed her cooking. She was a good cook and an immaculate housekeeper. She has always been a good worker in the community by serving on the food committee, her church by singing in the Women’s Choir, Ushering, attending Sunday School and all services of St. James A.M.E. Church, and in her home until her health began to fail.

On December 11, 2008, she passed away at the Citrus Health & Rehabilitation Center, Inverness, FL.

She leaves to mourn her passing: two devoted friends and caretakers, Rebecca Broughton of Inverness, FL and Bobbie Kyle of Hernando, FL; two nephews, Louis Polite and Aubrey Holloman both of Lake Worth, FL; three sisters-in-law, Alwillie Smith of Inverness, FL, Mary Ella Mason of Yalaha, FL and Rosemary Chester of Ft. Worth, TX; one brother-in-law, Elijah Chester (Mary) of Orlando, FL; several devoted and caring employers for whom she worked for many years, a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
