Obituary for Willie Jr. Brown
On July 31, 1931, down in the small community of Darby, Florida, God blessed Mable Jackson and Willie Brown Sr. with the third child of 11 children he predestined for this family. Willie Brown Jr. was raised in Greenfield, Florida and received his early education in the school system there. Holding fast to the belief that “Family always came First”, as a young man, Willie became employed at a saw mill in order to help provide for his younger siblings. Willie was later employed as a truck driver (PTL Trucking), a heavy equipment operator (Florida Rock), master mechanic (City of Brooksville) as well as a bus driver (Jerome Brown Community Center). He embraced a strong work ethic and believed “that a man that don’t work, don’t eat.”  Willie loved God and recognized Jesus as his Lord and Savior under the tutelage of  Rev. King E. Rogers of St. James Missionary Baptist Church.   He continued his relationship with Christ by joining Josephine Street Church of the Living God where his father was the pastor. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and was later ordained as a deacon under the leadership of his brother, Bishop Theodore N. Brown. Willie remained a faithful member until his health declined. Willie was a very kind and gentle soul who had a loving and generous heart. For Hebrews 12:14 was etched in his heart and continuously on his lips proclaiming that we must “Follow peace with all men, holiness without, no man shall see the Lord”.  Whether you were a friend, family or stranger, he had a way of bringing a smile to your face or making you laugh in any situation. He touched many lives and left an impressionable mark on those who came to know and love him. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; five siblings: Leroy, Ulysee, Joe, Annie Mae, and Mary; loving wife, Annie Bell Pope Brown; son, Willie Jerome Brown III; grandson, Augusta Brown; mother-n-law and Cora Pope Evans.
 
He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life: devoted wife, Donia Woods Brown of Brooksville, FL; four daughters: Gloria “Jean” Brown of Atlanta, GA; Annie Johnson (Malcolm) of Biloxi, MS; Gail Gapers of Allendale, SC; and baby girl Cynthia “Cissye” Brown Jackson (Faith) of Brooksville, FL; six sons: John “Buster” Brown Sr.(Milagros) of Augusta, GA; Cleveland Pope (Terrell); Richard Marcus (Virginia); Harold Brown (Jennifer), Ernest “Pip” Brown (Bonnie) and Calvin Brown (Ophelia) all of Brooksville, FL; nine step-children: Robert Woods (Marcia); Patricia Browning, Jacquelyn Smalls (Benjamin), Linda Mobley (Danny), Theo Woods (Dawn), Angela Parker (Pervis), Tyrone Woods (Cheryl), Rachael Brown, and Greg Woods; fifty-two grandchildren, seventy two great-grand children and two great great-grand children; two sisters: Sally Washington and Juanita Washington of Brooksville, FL; three brothers: Theodore N. Brown (Gladys); Robert Brown (Emily) both of Brooksville, FL and Leon Brown (Mary) of Anchorage, Alaska; a host of god-children, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
