Obituary for Willie Mae Watkins
Our Beloved One
Willie Mae Watkins (Cox)

Willie Mae was born unto the late Elder John D. Watkins, Sr. and the late Missionary Jimmie Lee Watkins on January 22, 1944. She attended the local schools of Citrus County. She was joined in the estate of holy matrimony to the late Alonzo Cox of Dunnellon, FL on June 07, 1969.

Although being born and raised in Crystal River, and having a home just moments away from her parents’ home, she eventually moved to Cordele, GA for a long number of years. In 2005, she returned to Florida to help her family take care of her father. She remained in the home after the passing of her mother. Willie Mae would have many friends and neighbors stop by and check on her or complete needed errands. She always had a story to tell to anyone stopping by.

Shortly after returning home to Florida, her life shifted off course when she received a diagnosis of cancer. Instead of claiming defeat, she and her daughter stepped up their faith and took actions at the Moffitt Center in Tampa, FL. The journey and the roads were long but triumphant. Praise God.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elder John Sr. and Jimmie Lee Watkins; one sister Margaret A. Griffin; husband Alonzo Cox; and nephew Carlos Brooks.

She gave, and leaves her love to: one and only daughter, Shelaine “Shelia” Webster (Keith); one sister Ida L. Brooks (Charles, Sr.); one brother John D. Watkins, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Georgia Lee Wilson and Mary Lee Jones; brother-in-law, Lorenzo Griffin; grandchildren, Octavia Strawder (Nate), Tacara L. Nelson and Keiyah Webster; step-grandson, Adrian Webster; God-grandsons, Maurice Thorne of Virginia and Dexter K. White; great-grandchildren, Jalen Strawder, Naraiya Strawder and Elijah Nelson; nieces, Anita Brooks Collins (Willie) and Lynnette Brooks; nephews, Charles Brooks, Jr. (Amanda), Bryant Brooks (Denise), Bryan Brooks (Joscyln); Julius Griffin (Christy) and Cordele Griffin; great-nieces, Amesha Sexton, Chalacia Brooks and Khyesha Brooks; great-nephews, Clarence Brown II, Jeremy Brooks, Brandon Brown (Janai) and Treshawn Brooks; great-great-niece, Alana Brooks; Honorable mention to our uncle Franklin D. Watkins, Sr. (Altamese), aunt Mary F. Watkins and a friend and caretaker, Norman Scriven; a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, friends and long time friends in Georgia.
