Obituary for SYLVIA McKINNON-WADE
Obituary
Sylvia McKinnon-Wade
I heard the savior say, “Thy strength indeed is small, child of weakness watch and pray, find in me thine all and all.”
Death is just a detour along life’s winding way that leads God’s children to a bright and glorious day. The book of life was opened as a beautiful rose blossom and was given to Orbary and Betty McKinnon as a precious gift from God, the first born child, on February 4, 1951 and was given the name, Sylvia McKinnon.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her lord and savior and joined the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Reverend James Brooks. Upon her relocation to Miami, Florida, she joined the mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorship of Reverend James Hendon, where she was an active member of the senior choir.
She attended public schools in Citrus County Florida. She was a graduate of Crystal River High School, Class of 1969. Participating in the marching band, playing the coronet. She was also a majorette.
After graduation, she moved to Miami, Florida, where she attended Miami-Dade community college, attaining an Associate of Arts Degree in pre-teaching in 1971. She completed her education at Florida Memorial College, attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education in 1973. Her professional life included employment with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Young Men’s Christian Association and the Family Christian Association of America.
In the year of 1981, she was joined in holy matrimony to Henry L. Wade. To this union one son was born, Marcus Everett Wade.
She was well loved by family and friends. On the evening of November 4, 2012, Sylvia heard the voice of Jesus say, “Come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Henry L. Wade; her son Marcus Wade of Miami, Florida; parents Orbary McKinnon, Sr. and Betty Davis-McKinnon of Crystal River, Florida; two brothers, Cornel J. Parker (Debra) of Des Moines, Iowa and Warren D. McKinnon (Beverlyn) of Dunnellon, Florida; two sisters, Marunda V. Denson (Eddie) and Tammy P. McKinnon both of Miami, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Claudia Holton of Miami, Florida and Ethel Williams-McKinnon of Dunnellon, Florida; five uncles, Robert L. Davis (Jenice), Daniel H. Moore (Gloria), James B. Davis, Jr. (Rhonda), William L. Robinson and Frank C. Richardson; five aunts, Alease Smith, Ophelia Baker, Vernell Callahan (Earl), Geneva Moore and Essie McKinnon, three nephews, Terrance J. Parker, Orbary R. and Cordero T. McKinnon; two great-nieces, Emma Ann Parker and Aliyah Nicole McKinnon; two step-children, Farrastine Wade-English and Keith Wade; a host of cousins and friends.
